They say, “no two years are alike” and that is true in the Outside Sales Department. Last year we saw a flurry of winter and early spring activity as clients look to have dispersals of farm machinery and livestock, perhaps having taken the decision to retire or end their tenancy. Obviously, retirement dispersals only come in the rotation of life but generally auctioneers are seeing their sale calendars quieter in early 2025. As dairy, beef cattle and sheep are seeing prices at all-time highs, many farmers are tending to hold station and delay their retirement and enjoy some of the much-needed increased revenue. Monthly winter fodder sales are in full swing, with bedding straw being the most sought after this season. The silage and hay is very much the best will sell, but any second quality fodder is very difficult to place. Good, clamped grass silage is trading £40-£45 ton while 6 string (120x90) Wheat and Barley straw is £45 bale, ex farm.
Our spring collective sale of tractors, vehicles and farm machinery will be held on Thursday 24th April, which will be held as normal at the sale field at Frome Market. There is ample tarmac parking for all vehicles together with two telescopic loaders and drivers, overnight dog patrol security and the excellent market café. Entry forms are available from our Standerwick office or can be downloaded here. If you want to discuss selling machinery or any livestock dispersals call Trevor Rowland 07968 480401 or Ross Whitcombe 07815 985737.
