A busy autumn for agricultural auctions

A busy autumn for agricultural auctions hero

Senior Associate Trevor Rowland, is reponsible for Outside Sales and is also a Senior Auctioneer at Frome Livestock Market (FLA). Here he reflects on what autumn will look like for his department at Cooper and Tanner:

As the harvest season wraps up, our attention shifts to autumn and we’ve seen that the demand for livestock and machinery is robust, reflecting a strong market across the UK.

Recent sales at FLA have demonstrated excellent prices for all categories of livestock, with a vibrant atmosphere resonating through the auction rings. The market restaurant has also returned to its role as a central hub, where farmers gather to exchange insights, offer support, and navigate the challenges of the industry.

As the years pass there comes a time for change, and this time of year often brings significant transitions, and we see several retirement dispersals on the horizon. These events are emotional occasions, marking the end of a lifetime's dedication to farming. As an auctioneer, it is a privilege to be part of these special days, ensuring that the culmination of years of hard work is met with the best possible returns when these collections go under your hammer.

While the industry continues to modernize, it is encouraging to see a new generation stepping forward. Visiting the shows this summer highlighted the enthusiasm of younger farmers, eager to carry on the traditions of this beloved way of life.

As we move into the busy autumn season, the outlook for agricultural auctions remains positive, with a strong market and a community that continues to thrive amidst change. You can contact Trevor on 01373 831010.
